VPA Rankings
All Vietpadel participants receive a VPA Ranking. This system assesses your abilities and helps you find suitable matches with players at your level. It also guides you on which tournament levels to enter and which group coaching lessons you should attend. You can find full details on group lessons here.
You can visit the Vietnam Padel Association website here to view the full rankings. Click on the Men's Ranking tab or Women's Ranking tab as needed.
Understanding Your VPR Rating
Your VPR rating is a reflection of your abilities. This will be affected by your match results in ranked matches (tournaments, leagues, Americano). It is updated monthly.
We also use this information to determine seeding in tournaments by combining your VPR rating with your partner's to get a total score. The pair with the highest rating in the category will be seeded #1, the second highest #2, and so on. If a player without a previous rating enters a tournament, we will do our best to assess their ability level and assign a fair VPR rating.
International Level
Finally, we have the International Level column. This shows how your Vietpadel level compares globally.
For example, if you travel abroad and want to play a padel match, you will often be asked your level to find players of a similar skill. Beginner or intermediate can vary slightly across different countries.
Explaining VPR Ranking
Here's an explanation of how the system works after your initial ranking is assigned.
Simply put, the better your ability, the more the ranking system expects you to win. The better you become, the smaller the ranking reward when you win a match against a lower-ranked player.
Several factors can affect the points you gain or lose:
- Your and your partner's abilities and ratings
- Your opponents' abilities and ratings
- Win/loss ratio – for example, winning 6-0 will earn you more points than winning 6-4
- Total points in sets – for example, losing 2-0 in a best of three sets match will hurt more than losing 2-1
Tournament Scenario
A pair is rated at 400 and 370, for a total of 770.
Here are their tournament results:
Round | Opposition Rating | Score | Win/Loss | Rating Gain/Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|
Group Stage | 600 | 6-4 | Win | +2 |
Group Stage | 750 | 6-3 | Win | +5 |
Group Stage | 820 | 2-6 | Loss | -5 |
Quarterfinal | 700 | 7-5 | Win | +3.5 |
Semifinal | 900 | 1-6 1-6 | Loss | -5.5 |
3rd/4th place | 750 | 2-6 5-7 | Loss | -8 |
This team finished fourth in the tournament, winning three matches and losing three.
Overall, their total rating would decrease by 8 points due to:
- The quality of the opponents they defeated and lost to
- Win/loss ratio
Additional Points
- Men only gain or lose ranking points for matches played in men's categories. Their ranking is not affected by mixed doubles matches.
- Women gain ranking points for matches played in women's and mixed doubles categories.
- Americano tournaments offer a small bonus point to all participating players – both men and women.
- All player rankings are updated monthly, at the end of the calendar month.
- In the case of a tournament, the tournament must be fully completed before any results are entered into the system and affect the rankings.

VPA Annual Men's Ranking
This ranking reflects the performance of players in tournaments over the past 365 days. This process does not run from January to December but is a rolling 365 days backward from the current date. So, in June 2024, you can see who the top performers have been since June 2023.
We measure this based on player performance and results in monthly tournaments.
In a VPA 10 tournament, the winning Men's A team will receive 100 points. In a VPA 30 tournament, the winner will receive 300 points. In a VPA 50, the winner will receive 500 points. Second, third, fourth, etc., will receive fewer points, and lower-ranked categories will also receive fewer points. Full details of points can be viewed before each tournament.
Road to Saigon 2024
This is similar to the above. In December, there will be the Masters finals, inviting the top-performing players from 2024 to compete. Limited points will be offered for this tournament, and the Road to Saigon 2024 winner will be crowned the annual champion.
For Men's A, the more points a tournament has, the longer the tournament will last.
- VPA 10 – One match
- Masters 30 – Best of three sets with a third set tiebreak
- Masters 50 – Best of three sets – full three sets
